The word “Esquirlas” means, in Spanish, the parts of a whole. Our jewellery brand was born with the same purpose. Artists with different talents come together to create works that none could accomplish alone.
Esquirlas has developed a unique artistic language that fuses the craft tradition of goldsmiths with the elegance of modern designers.
ESQ embraces new forms and shapes using classic craft methods for making the finest jewellery.
Being “Made by hand” our first priority, it is our choice to focus on one-off pieces, limited collections and bespoke.
Our aim is to bring our classic background into elegant and contemporary designs that interact with the body and fuse with the character of the owner.
So, every piece has its story, born with a concept translated to paper with simple lines and live gestures. Then drawings are brought to the bench where the metal and gemstones are carefully worked to realise the intention. Nothing is outsourced so quality is assured and resources are respected.
HOW WE MAKE OUR JEWELLERY
Esquirlas’ workshop is in Florence where each grain of metal is melted, every stone is set and signature engraved.
We work with natural gemstones and precious metals, recycled when possible.
It is detail that drives our designs. For that we work with tradition workshop equipment and accurate new technology. Every piece has ESQ logo engraved and every stone is set under microscope for precision.
To complete our care and dedication to each project, we design our boxes using the right shape and material for each piece and some are even made by hand.
The Makers
CARLOS’ passion for small-scale sculptures opened his eyes to the world of jewellery. He started Esquirlas to create sculptures that could be worn. Born in Venezuela, Carlos’ artistic journey began with a trip around South America, where he learned a wide range jewellery techniques and developed special skills like chains and links. Later Carlos advanced his knowledge studying and working in England and recently in Florence where he has specialised in stone setting.
MARIANA was born in Portugal. As a Fine Arts student in Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, she always had a deep passion for Engraving.
After studying Tradition Jewellery Techniques in Lisbon, she travelled to Florence to obtain a specialisation in hand engraving to combine her skills in jewellery art.
It was in Florence that Carlos and Mariana met and developed further their artistic partnership.
